Split Pea Soup -- Tomila

2 c. split peas                                            1/2 t. marjoram
6 c. water                                                  1/2 t. basil
1 medium onion, chopped                          1/4 t. cumin
2 garlic cloves, pressed                              1/4 t. ground black pepper
2 carrots, diced                                         1/2 t. salt
2 stalks celery, sliced
1 potato, diced

Rinse and sort peas.  Place in pot with all ingredients, except salt.  Bring to a good simmer, cover loosely and cook until peas are tender about 1 hour.  Salt to taste
