Thumb Cookies (one of favorites in the 80's and 90's)

 Dainty and tasty for parties

1/4 c. butter                          1 egg yolk
1/4 c. brown sugar                1/4 t. vanilla

Sift and stir in 1 c. flour, 1/4 t. salt.  Roll batter into balls the size of walnuts.  Then have ready 3/4 c. walnuts or pecans and beat egg whites with fork not too much.  Dip balls into egg white, then roll into crushed nuts.  Place on greased cookie sheet 1 inch apart.  Bake 5 minutes at 375 degrees.  Remove and push thumb into center of each cookie to make indentation.  Put back in oven for 8 minutes.  Cool and frost in center with buttery, powdered icing (any color).  Enjoy
